Agenzia del Demanio
The State Property Office, controlled by the Economy Ministry. It manages state-owned property, including some bits of Italy's artistic and cultural heritage deemed as culturally valuable, as well as properties confiscated from criminal organisations. The top manager is Roberto Reggi. One key function of this agency, which describes itself as an asset manager, is to identify and facilitate the sale of public properties as part of a national pledge to reduce government debt. The Office also seeks to encourage private investment to make better use of unused state properties, such as abandoned army barracks, including by offering long-term leases. While public officials and bankers often talk about a mass privatization campaign worth more than €500 billion, the total revenue Italy has raised from state property sales in the past five years is 0.1% of that sum.
