CISL

Italy's second-largest trade union association in terms of numbers, although like CGIL many of its members are currently retired. CISL (Confederazione Italiana Sindacati Lavoratori) has a Catholic vocation and was allied with the defunct Christian Democrat party and, now, with its centrist heirs. Its reputation, in cases enshrined in its own statute, makes it less overtly political than other unions, and its leadership tends to consider business interests as complementary to those of labor.
