Marche

Marche's cluster of specialized industries has fostered the rise of home appliance maker Indesit and shoe and clothing maker Tod's. It is also an agricultural centre and operator of a port on the Adriatic. The tourism industry thrives on the rich heritage, the charming hills, the long 180 kilometer coastline, 26 seaside resorts, two national parks, more than a thousand monuments and Recanati where Giacomo Leopardi was born. In gastronomy it is famous for its truffles and cured meat: the salame di Fabriano, that is larded and the ciauscolo, a soft, spreadable pork salame protected under the IGP seal.
