Sicily

The largest island in the Mediterranean, Regione Siciliana is one of Italy's semi-autonomous regions and known as the island with thousand faces. Controlled by nearly every invading force over the centuries, it was one of the Two Sicilies during the reign of the royal Bourbon family. Although its name evokes the Mafia criminal organization, Sicily is among other things a formidable producer of wine, oil and citrus fruit and one of Italy's richest region in terms of heritage sites /the famous Valley of the Temples) and natural beauty spots.
