Veneto

Veneto's capital and largest city is Venice, which was once one of the world's greatest maritime republics. Although the region's economy consists mostly of small- and medium-sized companies, their expertise in everything from furniture to jewelry to electronics makes it a big exporter. It is also home to international players such as Benetton, Geox and Luxottica, the world's biggest eyewear maker. A regional movement founded in Veneto is the Northern League, the separatist party that once held sway in national politics.
