Italy's central bank, and banking regulator. Also called 'Bankitalia', it is part of the European System of Central Banks (ESCB) and the Eurosystem. Its goal is the general well-being of the monetary and financial sector. It promotes the smooth functioning of the payment system. It exercises surveillance, pursuing a prudent management of intermediaries, stability and the overall efficiency of the financial system. Italy belongs to Europe’s single currency, the euro.
