Patto del Nazareno
The Pact of the Nazarene is the political agreement reached on January 18, 2014 between current Prime Minister Matteo Renzi, then mayor of Florence and leader of the Democratic Party, and disgraced former prime minister and Forza Italia centre-right leader Silvio Berlusconi.
The pact is named after the location of the Democratic Party headquarters in Rome, in Largo del Nazareno, where Renzi and Berlusconi met. The two leaders -- whose political parties have been warring for the past 20 years -- agreed to vote in Parliament a new electoral law and a series of constitutional reforms, including that of the Senate and of Title V of the Constitution. It was the first time that Berlusconi entered the offices of the PD.
